Dante Aesop

Matt Bomer as Dante Aesop

The first person Ryan meets in the Dominion, Dante seems a happy-go-lucky soul but is shunned by the other residents. Ryan and Rebecca rely on Dante to help them understand the magic in Dominion programming and he's happy to help his friends.

His relationship with the Grimms is complex. On the surface, he asks for nothing but their friendship (and perhaps romance from Rebecca) and is their greatest ally. But he constantly expects to be betrayed even as he saves their lives. Over the course of the season, he'll grow to trust the Grimms even as his dark secret threatens to put them all in even greater danger.

His relationship with other Residents is even more complex. Residents who discover he can teleport at will do not trust him FOR A REASON - teleporting is linked with the Avatar Incidents. People who knew this prior to the Avatar Incidents will have immediately asked him about his involvement.

There will be rumors that it's because of a poisoned water source, angry gods, etc. There is another rumor: somewhere there's a town of teleporters who do this. Chesire Cats legends - Dante should have heard the legends and wonder if they're true. Dante stays around Bremen because they tolerate him fairly well and because he's researching where he came from.

  • Bremen folk tolerate him because they're familiar with him/think helping him will stop the Avvies/will be a useful hostage if those responsible show up
      • That last is not far wrong. When Chester shows up he dallies because he's baffled by Dante and later allows himself to be jailed because he's realized how young Dante truly is and how clueless/helpless.

Dante: And in comes Dante who helps but can teleport at will so he's not liked or trusted and the teleporting makes people blame Chesires which is unfair and worse - turns out to be not wrong which Dante will bitch NONSTOP about when we get there

Sexual Orientation

Kat says:
The network doesn't feel comfortable with it so we're not allowed to put it in overtly.
Kat says:
But we constantly send notes to Matt and Joe to flirt with EVERYONE
MetalliBitch Clex says:
Fox will let you have bi people.
But there needs to be a lesbian kiss that is HEAVILY featured in promos.

Sara says:
ACTUALLY I am in the middle of reading comments on some meta on a very similar topic! http://bookshop.livejournal.com/1017712.html
Kat says:
they either come across as slutty or in a OTP relationship that "flips a switch"

Kat says:
will Dante being bi do?
Sara says:
sure
Kat says:
openly bi
I mean- not the "the writers say he is in interviews"

108

Kat says:
cause I actually want to have Ryan be straight and hug and hold Dante and be ok that Dante needs to hold on
Kat says:
so in 108 -
Dante has figured out that Chester is another Chesire and as he's an orphan he's got that hopehopehope that Chester is actually his real father. He keeps it a secret and Jacob uses it against him with the Grimms but Dante confesses and their ok by the end of the ep
in 109 Chester makes it across and uses the displacement and programming as a weapon
Sara says:
they're*
Kat says:
not for the post
Sara says:
wait… Chester is his DAD?
Kat says:
No - as it turns out Chester is just another chesire
but Dante doesn't really know WHAT he is - just that he's different
and Chester is like him, so Dante thinks they're related.
Sara says:
oh okay
Kat says:
at the end of 109 - Chester is the bad guy and Dante had to choose between his possible father and the Grimms
and he picks the Grimms
and just breaks down sobbing because he wanted a family so badly
Sara says:
awwwwww
MetalliBitch Clex says:
Aw!
BB
Kat says:
and because it's a DADDY issue he just turns and grabs on to Ryan instead of Rebecca
and Ryan just sits with him slightly rocking
and that's how the episode ends
MetalliBitch Clex says:
And, lo, another slash pairing was born.
Kat says:
After 109 "The Twelve Brothers"
There's more critical GLBT praise for the show for the end scene, where a distraught Dante is physically comforted by Ryan and not Rebecca.
